Neon Grid
A synthwave highway at midnight. At the end of the road waits the Eclipse itself. Or so it seems.
Why the worlds glow, where the horde comes from, and what the shards you collect really are.
At the heart of the galaxy floats the Prism Core: a crystal star that takes plain starlight and splits it into colour. Every neon world runs on that colour. It lights the coral of the reef, feeds the furnace of the forge and writes the aurora across the sky at the edge of everything.
Then something came from outside the light. A hunger with no colour of its own: the Eclipse. It reached the Prism and cracked it.
The Prism's pieces rained across the worlds. The colour began to drain away, and the light it left behind curdled into something that moves, and swarms, and wants more.
The colour is leaking out of the worlds. Somebody has to bring it back.
The heroes are living sparks of colour, born in the moment the Prism cracked. Each caught a different piece of the light, which is why every one of them fights differently. They're small, they're bright, and there are a lot of monsters.
The horde is colourless energy that steals colour to take shape. That's why the same blobs glow coral in the reef and ember in the forge: they wear whatever colour they've stolen. Defeat them and the colour is set free as the gems you collect.
The shards you earn are real pieces of the Prism. Spending them on upgrades is how the Chromas rebuild themselves, a little brighter every run.
The Prism split light into three bands: Blaze, Storm and Glow. Every weapon is tuned to one of them, and a Chroma who tunes several weapons to the same band builds up Resonance.
Free enough colour at once and, for a few seconds, the Prism pulses back to life through you: double damage, more speed, and every gem pulled in.
Memories of the Prism's old keepers, found as cards. Each one bends the rules for the rest of a run.
The Chromas follow the colour outward, world by world. Each world has a guardian the Eclipse has turned, and at its heart something far worse.

A synthwave highway at midnight. At the end of the road waits the Eclipse itself. Or so it seems.

Glowing coral under a turquoise sea. The Tidecaller drags the colour out with every wave.

Molten gold rivers inside a dying star. The Smelter, the furnace itself, has woken up hungry.

Ribbons of light at the edge of everything. The Starweaver is being made to unpick the stars.
Every world you clear gives a little of its colour back. But the crack in the Prism is still there, and the colour keeps leaking out of it.
Some say the trail of light leads all the way to the Prism Core itself. Whatever is waiting there has been waiting a long time.
The story continues in the game. Clear the worlds and see for yourself.
